The Anecdote Archive
speculative narrative Mix Media, 2019 2 × 2 × 0.78 m The Anecdote Archive was guided by researches I did on Gilbert and George at the Tate Archive, in order to question, how physical objects defeat the purpose of archiving? Can Archive really capturing, containing, and freezing the moment/experience of artists? How effective does archival objects holds information of Artists’? This installation is an invitation to dine at Gilbert and George ‘s favourite restaurant, yet, this is also a refusal of an authentic experience that is impossible for people to trace back accurately. Although the viewers could have the plates, forks, glasses to hold on, but the taste, texture, smell of the food or in other word, the authenticities are lost. These objects/experiences are then only a forge of an ideal imagination of the viewers, a failure of an authentic experience after all. |
